N.T. Wright on Freedom

Last week, we had a brief discussion regarding freedom.  Today, I wanted to share some of N.T. Wright’s thoughts regarding freedom.  Let the discussion continue.

Christ purchased humans first and foremost for God, to be kings and priests to serve him.  Realize the full impact of this…It was on commission from the Father that the Son came down to the slave market that day.  He set us free to be – freemen?  Just one grade up from slaves?  Certainly not…we are to be kings, to share in God’s work of ruling the world.  And we are to be priests, representing the whole of creation to God, summing up its praises in our own.     – N.T. 1. Serving God with much love and confidence not out of fear

  2. Were we rulers prior? When God created man, did He create them to be rulers to begin with? We became slaves after the fall of man – and is that why God came down as man to die for our sins and return our priesthood?

    • Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have *dominion* over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” -Gen 1:26

It seems to me that God’s plan included man ruling when he says dominion. As you said, it’s only after the fall that everything must be restored. Love you!
