Black and White

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?  Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.  And such were some of you.  But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.  1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (ESV)

I’ll let the text here speak for itself.  Any thoughts here?

  1. Larry L. Says:

Brother, Amen! What a joy it is to be “Born Again in Jesus Christ”! God’s grace is overwhelming!

  2. This text scares me at the beginning – am I an unrighteous who will never see heaven? I can’t just pick one of those things listed and think “well I’m not that!”… but what if I drink a little too much wine… am I a drunkard? Just as if I say a little white lie… I’m still a liar… and yet I am washed, sanctified, and justified… how undeserving am I…what a wretched man indeed…. wow
I know that God’s grace washes all those things but it says that it’s who we WERE, and no longer should be. I struggle with not being good enough because the Word of God says “don’t be this”… and then it says…. “you are forgiven”. It just blows my mind.

    • Good thoughts here Maria. You have a way with words. I, too, am taken back by what Paul says. However, we must understand sanctification to be a process and not an “overnight success.” As he says elsewhere, let’s keep our eyes on the prize (Jesus Christ). Love ya!
